Firs Estate Allotment Holders Association, Dean Street, Derby

Thanks for visiting our web site. We are located in the Stockbrook Street area of Derby, the main entrance being on Dean Street, opposite the junction with Harrison Street. You can find us by entering the postcode DE22 3PU at  www.streetmap.co.uk . The site  is open on Sunday mornings during the growing season between 10 and 12 for anyone to come and have a look round.

We have 52 plots on 6.5 acres of land. We are in a sheltered position on a south-facing slope with good loamy soil. We like to think it is an attractive site, with hedges bordering the grass tracks connecting the plots, numerous trees and an area set aside for wildlife.

This is a private site (as opposed to those run by a local authority) and is leased to us by the owners. It is managed by a committee which is elected on a yearly basis at the annual general meeting of association members. The committee deals with looking after the site, letting plots, collecting rent and running the trading hut. There is also a seed scheme through which members can obtain seeds at a much reduced price.

We are only too happy to hear from people who would like to rent a plot, for details see the next page.

We would like to acknowledge the support we receive from the probation service's community payback team.

We are affiliated to the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners.(www.nsalg.org.uk)
